no. all types of addiction are negative, no ifs and butts. to be addicted to something is to have one topic or subject that completely engulfs your thoughts, and your subjective reason for existence.

i'm jus saying this because i think i'm addicted too, and i kno it's bad. if you logged in 1500 hours in 6 months, that amounts to 62 actual days of straight playing. (1500/24)

and if i assumed that each month is 30 days, then 34% of your 6 months has been GW. and if i apply that same percentage to a day, then you would have to play at least 8 hours a day. let me tell you, 8 hrs a day sitting at a computer, is NOT healthy....(please prove me wrong at this). that leaves little to no time for sleep

6 hours of school/day + 8 hours of GW= 14 hours.
24 hours - 14 hours = 10 hours.
10 hours of free time - a healthy 8 hours of sleep = 2 hours.

Basically, you only have 2 hours to do anything else except GW, so how could you direct a healthy life out of that? it's high imbalance.

this is speaking from a gw-fan, but a person also speaking with reason. just don't let it mess with your life, balance it up and i GUARANTEE without the addiction you will be 10x happier, look back, and (if you don't still feel obsessed) wonder how you ever played this game.
Woot! Very nice piece of advice indeed. Everything needs moderation, too much of anything is never good.

1588 hours over 9 months

I work. I eat, I sleep, I attend family functions, I run errands, I read, I do housework and chores like laundry and shopping. I take vacations (without a computer). Where do I find all that time for GW? I don't watch TV (except for football). I gave up mall shopping. I stopped playing all my other games and I haven't bought a new one since February that wasn't GW.

Obsessed? You could say that, but it's not interfering with real life, so any psychiatrist/psychologist would say it's not a problem.

Time played is not a measure of obssesion. Your attitude regarding the game, and how strongly you feel drawn to it, is a better gauge.

I'm confused as to why doing what you enjoy is a bad thing.

Exactly. It isn't. Well, unless things in your life, that you feel are important, are suffering. If you spend all of what you would consider as "free time" playing, and you enjoy playing, then you're good to go. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

For some perspective, I'm going on 11 months, myself, and I think I've logged about 1100 hours. So, I suppose 100h/month ain't too bad. I mean, I do work around 160h/month, so I still work more than play. Trust me, I wish it were the other way around.

It isn't, until as Mr Jazzy said, it impacts on your health. A great example (if a little over-exaggerated) of this is the South Park episode based on WoW. They abandon their social lives to a goal that engulfs their life, and become obese, pimply, and begin to suffer from CARPAL TUNNEL (dreaded syndrome of all gamers).

Otherwise, play your heart out. However I will make this point. To say that having an addiction to Guild Wars is bad, is almost an insult to the poor people that are addicted to more serious things, like the aforementioned drugs. I know personally people that would give anything to be addicted to a computer game, rather than addicted to a life-threatening chemical substance.

If you think your addicted think agian, some people i have on my friends list just to laugh at who play roughly 16 hours each day.. thats insane. Enjoy the social life you have because some people just dont have one obviously

Guild Wars is good alongside a "real" life with friends and family outside of Guild Wars, when you start to play all the time just so you feel "yeah im really good im so "cool" im teh l33test pwner" then.. you have no life and how do you kill that which has no life? :O

Other than GW being a tremendously great game...and a game that keeps making you think "I'll just do that small quest before I stop..."...I also play to keep in touch with family. I moved away from home to work in Inverness and playing for a few hours with my brother (who still lives at home) is kinda nice...until my parents shout down the microphone (mid battle, I might add) that she wants me to do things and to send them back home for her!

Just popped in to post a bug in the bug sticky.. saw this post and needed to comment that these sort of eye catching posts should not be posted at all lest i see them and it takes me away from getting straight back to whatever mission or quest or item farm i was engaged in.. (phew)
